Columbine

One of the most tragic things to have happened in the history of our nation and really opened a lot of eyes, was the Columbine. The Columbine is the story of two kids who were reported to have been bullied opened fire in their school. They went through about 900 rounds and had automatic weapons. In Michael Moore’s story he covered the town and the areas around Michigan to show America the easy gun access it gives us. He went around to prove the ridiculousness of everything that went down there. He got a new bank account and in return got a gun. He even states how getting the gun from a vault that is in a bank probably isn’t the smartest thing ever. Then he goes around to your everyday average stores to buy ammunition. One of the most surprisingly places he bought some ammunition was at the local barber shop, when he was getting a haircut just asked for the rounds, and then the rounds he got. He proved that getting a gun and ammunition was too easy for anyone to get, and that’s why it was so easy for the two kids that got it and killed 12 of their classmates and a teacher. No one saw it coming and there was also no way to really prevent the kids from doing it because of the easy access gun laws. The two kids ended up taking their own lives that day as well making the total of 15 people who died that day. The tragic ending to a day where everything started off well as could be, like an average day. The whole story just shows that guns need to be harder to get and should only be given to the right people who fit some criteria. Another reason why the U.S has the most deaths, far more than any other country. Americans take advantage of the easily being able to obtain a gun, and use it to kill others. This is wrong and can be changed so that people can feel safer living in America and to reduce the numbers of deaths drastically. Change, however, is defiantly needed.

If I Were A Poor Black Kid

I would agree with the authors view points in the article “If I Were a Black Kid”, by Gene Marks. In this country anything is possible, but what separates a millionaire from someone barley making it by is hard work. A lot of time and effort goes into becoming successful and a lot of hard work. One must work as hard as they can, and use their resources. They are going to need to travel around or spend the hours on eBay looking for a cheap resort. Get a job to pay for the technology. The options are out there but, they are going to be hard to find. Getting good grades on top of that and working as hard as you can in the class room will be difficult. But as long one puts in the time and effort and pushes through the hardship of his/her’s life I do also believe that anything is possible in the land of opportunities.

One of the responses to “If I Were a Poor Black Kid”, was very brutal and mean to the author. The man, a poor white kid, who eventually graduated from Stanford. Disagrees with the whole thing and feels as though it its harder said than done. One who comes from a single working parents that has to work 15 hours a day and 6 days a week does not have it easy. Almost not able to afford anything and going to the library not just for studying, but it is the only place with actual heat they can go to. This is not a very good life. But doing what one could do to get out of it and still working hard to getting the good grades made it possible for them to go off and be a big shot, it gave them the little go they needed to realize they didn’t want what they had, but more. So even though this guy disagrees, at the same time he followed it, maybe not to the extent of using every option but he kept his options for success open with his grades. Still in the end I would have to agree with the author with the fact that there are definite ways to get out there and find the programs or things that will enable people to do good for themselves. Even though all the things that he supplied the readers with are not possible, there still has to be a couple of the steps that one can follow.
